Digital Legacy can be divided into four categories: emotional, financial, social and intellectual.
A really good example of an intellectual digital legacy came to my attention when I read that Rob Wilkins, an assistant of the late author Terry Pratchett, destroyed the hard drive of Terry’s computer by driving over it with a steam roller!
The Great Dorset Steam Fair is held annually and it was at this event that a six and a half tonne steam roller attempted to destroy the digital record of Terry’s unfinished novels.
Terry did not want his unfinished works to be finished by anyone else, so when diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease he made this clear to his assistant.
If you are a writer or a musician, an artist or a photographer it is likely that a lot of your work is stored digitally. Recording a digital legacy, therefore, is going to be an important addition to your legal will.
