Brain was a life long user of Castle Cove beach in Weymouth. He lived very close to the beach in Old Castle Road since buying a home in the summer of 1957, where he lived for the rest of his life.

Brian was committed to helping the ‘Friends of Castle Cove Beach’ with their campaign to reinstate the steps to the shore, so that families could enjoy using the beach with their children, as he had done. In this video clip, recorded from BBC Spotlight in 2018, Brian is interviewed along with Steve Elsworth who is the organiser of the voluntary group.

The new beach steps were formally opened April 2019, and Brian was asked to cut the ribbon, as he was recognised as being the oldest beach user. He took part in a sea swim which was organised as part of the day’s celebrations on a warm and sunny day in April.
