This memorial website was created in memory of Emily Eliza by her great grand-daughter in loving memory.

About Emily Eliza 

  • Emily’s middle name Eliza was her mother’s name.
  • She lived in Alverstoke, and later in Portsea, Hampshire.
  • Emily Eliza Titheridge married George Sidney Wilkins in Portsmouth, in October 1901. They had three children: Beatrice, Winifred and William. They lived in Newclose Gardens, Weymouth.
  • Sadly her husband was accidentally killed on 29th June 1944 whilst picking roses for Emily in a plot of land opposite his home. The area had been previously bombed during WW2, and an unstable roof collapsed, dropping bricks on top of him.
  • Emily died in Weymouth in September 1965.

  • When Emily was living in Weymouth, Dorset, in 1911 the fight for women’s suffrage had turned militant, and in 1918 after decades of protests, British women secured the right to vote. 
  • Emily would have been familiar with the First Aid Nursing Yeomanry (FANY), founded in 1907 to provide nursing services both in hospitals and on the battlefield during World War One.
